The Women’s Giving Circle, an initiative of the Gainesville Community Foundation, will once again be granting hope—in the form of more than $70,000--to eight local agencies this spring. More than 120 women have joined in this endeavor since 2006 and because of their participation, $73,365 in grants will be awarded to programs benefiting women and girls of Alachua County—bringing the total amount to more than $350,000 in local funding in four years.
The following eight programs have been selected as recipients of Women’s Giving Circle fourth year of awards:
Arbor House - Award Amount: $6,000
Take Stock in Children - Award Amount: $5,000
Peaceful Paths - Award Amount: $7,500
Displaced Homemaker Program - Award Amount: $12,500
Catholic Charities - Award Amount: $9,865
Girl Scouts of Gateway Council - Award Amount: $10,000
Girls Place - Award Amount: $12,500
PACE - Award Amount: $10,000
Melanie Shore, immediate past chairwoman of the Gainesville Community Foundation, is delighted with the group’s success.
"The continued success of the Community Foundation’s Women's Giving Circle is proof that we are truly living and carrying out our mission to promote philanthropy in our community," Shore stated.
Women who join the Giving Circle commit to donate $1,000 each year for two consecutive years. Each donation is added to one grant pool enabling women to combine their resources to address the needs of area women and girls. The Circle members reviewed applications, visited each agency, and selected the finalist during a four-month process.
The Women's Giving Circle will celebrate its third and most successful year at their Awards Luncheon on March 24, 2010 at Bonefish Grill. For more information about the Women's Giving Circle, please contact the Gainesville Community Foundation at 367-0060.
Gainesville Community Foundation meets National Standards for operational quality, donor service and accountability in the community foundation sector.
The National Standards Seal by our name indicates official confirmation from the Council on Foundations that we have met the most rigorous standards in philanthropy. It affirms our commitment to financial security, transparency and accountability. It says our grantmaking includes an open, competitive process designed to address the changing needs of our community. The National Standards Seal also confirms our history of honoring donors’ wishes—to support the arts, cultivate gardens, save endangered species, cure illness, expand literacy, feed children—and support countless other important causes.
The National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations Program was established in 2000 in cooperation with the Council on Foundations. National Standards guide community foundations in establishing legal, ethical and effective operational practices that serve as blueprints for internal development and benchmarks for external assessment. The 43 National Standards require Gainesville Community Foundation to document its policies in donor services, investment management, grantmaking and administration. To receive confirmation of National Standards compliance, Gainesville Community Foundation submitted its organizational and financial policies and procedures to a rigorous peer review.
